History of DBF

A.    OUR HISTORY

Delhi BibleFellowship started as home church in the home of TEAM missionary Pastor MurrayAllen Carter (C-38, Nizamuddin). Pastor Murray Carter is the founding pastor.Pastor Carter’s vision was to build a large Bible believing church in the Southof Delhi, with a aim to reach the upper middle class people who live in thatarea including diplomats from many nations, to be a unifying influence for alarge number of evangelical organizations, as Delhi’s evangelical churches arefew and weak and give a church home for the leaders and converts.

Gaston andMargo Singh and a brother and sister Sonny & Sheila Massey who worked withDelhi Youth for Christ, were amongst Pastor Carter’s first friends in Delhi. Gaston,the Delhi Director expressed need to have a place where they can bring theirEnglish speaking contacts. Acting on Gaston’s request English service startedon Sunday afternoons. First service started in Pastor Carter’s living room onthe second Sunday of December, 1968 and grew quickly. The Massey’s familySonny, Sheila, Janet and Clarissa and their husbands Alex Singh an ordainedBaptist minister, Rajesh Malik were the first people to attend and playedsignificant part in the growth of the church which came to be known as DelhiBible Fellowship. Delhi Bible Fellowship continued to grow and move forwardunder God’s will and direction. Currently there are many worship servicesacross Delhi and NCR, with new church plants at Dwarka and NOIDA.

Some important milestones:-

1969 EveningService was started at Constantia Hall, YWCA, known as ‘Bible Fellowship Hour’,attended by people belonging to different denominations.

1970 Worshipservice in Hindi Language was started at Mr. John Ingle’s House at Dakshinpuri
1971 Worship service started at Basement of Mr. Bishen Singh’s House atSafdarjung Enclave.
1972 South Delhi congregation was established and started meeting at VikramHotel. Pastor Charles Warren joined DBF.
1973 DBF was registered as a Society under Society’s Registration Act.
1975 Evening service started at Banquet hall of Imperial Hotel.
1979 Morning service was started in Triveni Kala Sangam near Bengali Market.After some time Evening service was also started at the same venue. There werethree congregations at that time.
1980 During early Eighties North Delhi (Mukherjee Nagar) congregation wasestablished.
1992 South West Congregation was established at Mount Carmel Jr. School.
1993 DBF worship Centre building at 22 Bhai Virsingh Marg near Gole market wasinaugurated .
1994 Paschim Vihar Congregation was established.
1996 Another building Aradhana Bhawan, at Dakshinpuri was inaugurated.
1999 First congregation at Gurgaon was established.
2003 Vikram congregation was shifted to Sat Pal Mittal Auditorium.
2003 Land for church building was allotted in Gurgaon.
2004 Hindi congregations at Aaya Nagar and Badarpur were started.
2006 Hindi congregations at Sangam vihar & Paschim vihar were started
2008 Hindi evening service was started at Sat Pal Mittal auditorium
2010 NOIDA Church Plant
2010 Dwarka Church Plant.

Today DelhiBible Fellowship has many congregations (worship services) and eachcongregation is unique in its composition, catering to the needs ofpeople-group belonging to diverse background. The spiritual leadership providedby our pastors, both present & past and administrative leadership providedby the Board members.
After 40 plus years, with over 3000 people calling Delhi Bible Fellowship theirhome, the commitments to God’s grace, sound biblical teaching and authenticcommunity remain foundational. For a more in-depth history, check out History.
